Christmas Blaze Leaves 5 Dead and 2 with Serious Burn Injuries

On early Christmas morning, a fire blaze happened at a house in Stanford, Connecticut which left 5 family members killed and 2 more with serious burn injuries.

It was supposed to be a happy family reunion on Christmas day. Grandpa and grandma visited their daughter who has three kids to spend the holidays together. Bonding together with their three granddaughters might be one of the most exciting days for the old couple. But then it all turned it to be a tragic one.

The fire which erupted at around 5 AM at the Shippan Point neighborhood reached the third alarm. Both the grandfather and grandmother who just visited the family for Christmas died from the fire together with their three grandchildren. The three children who died were 7-year-old twins and a one-year-old, whom are all girls. The children’s mother, Madonna Badger, and one male acquaintance survived the incident. Both sustained serious burn injuries but were expected to have a full recovery soon.

The Reuters report said that the firefighters attempted to rescue the trapped victims but to no avail. Rescuers were pushed back by the towering fire and heat.

At present, the cause of the fire is not yet determined and according to fire investigators, it would take several days up to a week before finally concluding the fire’s main source.

It is the worst Christmas Day the family had. Maybe it would be more acceptable if the whole family only sustained burn injury, but unfortunately, five of the family members were killed leaving Badger alone. Definitely, Christmas wouldn’t be merry for Badger this time.

5 Killed in an Aviation Accident in Texas

Though airplanes are considered safer to ride than any other land vehicles, traveling in a bad weather condition may put the passengers’ lives at risk and may even lead to their death. Just take this incident as an example.

A family riding in a small plane from Jackson, Mississippi bounded to Waco Texas crashed killing its five members.

According to CBS News, the six – seater piper plane crashed in Brazos County and killed five family members including two minors last Monday at around 10’oclock in the evening.

The weather forecast during that time said that parts of northwest Texas have suffered from heavy snow, indicated overcast skies and that the storm may have been moving through the area.

Authorities say it’s not clear if bad weather condition is a factor in this aviation accident.

Reports said that the pilot contacted the Forth Worth tower and was instructed on how to avoid the rough weather. However, the plane flew in the opposite direction instead.

Two males, one female and two minors were killed in the said plane crash. It was confirmed by the authorities who conducted the investigation that that casualties were all family members.

Aviation accidents happen less often than accidents that occur on land. However, the surprising fact here is that number of fatalities in aviation accidents is greater since there is always a possibility that all the plane’s passengers will be at risk during an accident.

The most common causes of aviation accidents are mechanical malfunction, pilot errors or negligence and of course, bad weather condition.

US Coast Guard Prefers another Course of Action to Avoid Boat Accidents

The US Coast Guard adopts strategic course of action in order to avoid boat accidents. The agency is now setting a new legal capacity limit on boats.

In relation to the growing epidemic of obesity in the United States, the US Coast Guard has come up with ways to avoid boat accidents resulting from overweighting boat passengers. The agency is now working to recalculate formulas related to boat weight capacity limit by using heavier weights.

Just like vehicles and planes, boats are also required to follows safety codes associated with the maximum capacity limit they can carry. The capacity limit is formulated using a number representing the average weight of a passenger. This number is commonly referred as the Assumed Average Weight Per Person or AWWAPP by the US Department of Homeland Security.

Before, the AAWPP is approximately 150 pounds, therefore if a boat has 3,000 pounds maximum capacity, the legal number of person it can carry is 20.

Now, the problem is, many Americans weigh more than 150 pounds. Because of this, the Coast Guard had seen a need to adjust the AAWPP from 150 to 185 pounds. Meaning, a boat with a maximum capacity of 3,000 pounds can only carry 16 passengers.

The new AAWP will be 185 pounds, and the said amendment to the federal guidelines for boat capacities will be effective beginning December 1, 2011 in order to adapt to the reality of today’s passengers’ weight.

Despite the fact that this new amendment will lessen the legal number of passengers allowed to board a boat, the boat owners as well as the travelers also need to accept the changes.

Every year, between 600 and 800 people in the country are killed from boat accidents. This new amendment aims to lessen the risk of boat accidents.

Overnight Fire in Brownsville Left Man with Serious Burn Injury

As of present, the main cause of an overnight fire in Brownsville is still undetermined.
According to witnesses, there was a blaze before the fire spread. A neighbor came to help and called the firefighters.

Firemen said that the man sustained third degree burns to half of his body and is now being treated at San Antonio burn center, while the man’s wife escaped the fire without having any serious personal injury. Aside from them, several cats and dogs living in the house were trapped in the fire also.

The firefighters are still conducting an investigation about the main cause of the blaze. The home had no running water and electricity since the family who owned the house uses generators for powering the house. Therefore the firemen found it difficult to figure out the source of fire.

About three quarters of patients with serious burn injury die because of severe infection. The most common complication for a burn injury is the bacterial infection. Therefore, a necessary transfer from the emergency physician to a special department for reconstructive surgery should be conducted by the authorities to prevent infection.

Apart from the first aid treatment, patients should be provided with proper wound care, therapies and other necessary psychiatric treatment in a special follow up ward.

Though the man was able to survive the fire blaze, it’s still uncertain if he would be able to survive from the serious burn injuries he sustained. Wounds might be simple but the bacteria causing the infections may cause death. He should be extra careful. Following the proper authorities’ campaign against infection is a must.

Truck Driver Trying to Leave the Scene of a Truck Accident – Ticketed

While helping a stranded motorist at a highway near Syracuse, a state police officer was killed after being hit by a tractor trailer.

According to reports, the accident occurred at around 11 o’clock, early afternoon of November 20. The 53 – year old police officer Todd Young was seen helping a driver in an eastbound lane of Interstate 90. Allegedly, Young was struck by the tractor trailer driven by the 40 – year old Kurt R. Brown from Herkimer, New York.

Brown was working for a towing service in Mattydale, New York and during the truck accident, he was about to load a wrecked vehicle onto his truck according from the investigation. He was employed by Estes Express of Syracuse.

Though the good Samaritan police officer got killed from the said truck accident, Brown was only ticketed for unsafe lane change which led to a fatal accident.

Last year, over 500,000 trucks and other commercial vehicles were involved in vehicle accidents in New York with more than 100,000 people sustained serious personal injuries and more than 5000 people died in truck accidents. This is relatively large numbers compared to only 3200 recorded deaths resulting from truck accidents in 2009.

Apparently, road accidents involving trucks in New York is rapidly increasing. Authorities should implement a strict maximum speed level and other traffic rules and regulations as motorists often disregarded the same probably due to slack surveillance from traffic enforcers.

Serious personal injuries could have been avoided if only motorist and traffic authorities coordinate with each other regarding the traffic rules and regulations. Truck accidents could be more fatal than any other vehicle because of its huge and heavy equipments. Therefore, it should be given with more proper attention by the authorities.

Mobile Phone Use While Red Light is On Prohibited to Lessen Risk of Car Accidents

More often, while on the road, drivers never miss their chance to talk on their mobile phones during red lights. Of course it’s their best opportunity to sneak in a brief phone call to send their important messages while vehicles are not in motion and until red light is off since there is no such rule stating that it is unlawful then, but now before making or accepting any phone calls during red light, think twice first.

Early this week, state appeals court resolved that during red light, a driver is still prohibited from using a handled mobile phone.

However, despite of this new policy, the 1st District Court of Appeal in San Francisco caught motorist dialing a phone and handling it to his ears during red light. The driver and the police officer who caught him argued as the man claims that the 2007 law that requires a driver to use a hands – free cellphone device while driving only applies when a car is in motion.

The 2007 law allows drivers to make and accept mobile phone calls using a hands – free cellphone device while driving and only when the car is in motion. Apart from that nothing more was specified. Mobile phone usage during red light or while the vehicle is not in motion is not clearly stated on the law.

Supposedly the man has a point there but not after the new applied law has been approved. Under the new federal state law, a use of hand – free cellphone device now also applies even when the car is not in motion.

Justice James Lambden had given out his point of view that if drivers were allowed to make or accept mobile phone calls during brief pauses like in stop – and – go traffic, red lights, stop signs and other causes of impediments, public safety could be endangered. The resolution only reflects common sense according to Deputy Atty. Gen. Eric Share.

It was just a little modification on the first law, therefore following the new law will do no harm to motorist. But instead, will lessen the risk of car accidents and other vehicle accident related injuries.

Younger Children are more Prone to Burn Injury than Older Ones

In recent studies, the large majority of children who were taken to hospitals with injuries are below 5 years old and most of them are burn injury.

According to researches, the most common type of injury in pediatrics and emergency departments worldwide is burn injuries and other heat – related cases. One out of ten injuries around the world are as a result from burns and other related injuries.

In further studies, all burn admissions involving minor children were investigated for over a year, and during that period, 300 burn injuries has been recorded. It was found out on the same study that boys are most likely to suffer from such type of injuries than girls. It was also found out that out of 10, 8 children at the age of 5 mostly affected by burn injuries. The average age of burn injury victims is 3 ½ years old.

During the 1 - year study period, the most rate of hospital attendance for burn injuries was during the first six months as compared to the second six months. June has the most numbers of injury cases recorded.

According also to the conducted research, the most common cause of burn injuries to children are hot liquids particularly like hot water coffee, tea and boiling water from kettle or pots. Next is hot solid like hobs, stoves and other cooking devices and lastly is from radiations such as sunburns and etc.

The most numbers of burn injury accidents occurs during early afternoon and at the evening time when children are less under supervised by guardians.

Upper limbs like hands, wrists and arms, and the upper trunk such as chest and face are the most parts of the children’s body that are most possibly to be affected.

Generally, younger children are more likely to suffer burn injuries at home while older children are more likely to obtain such injuries outside home.

It was also noted on the research that children from poorer environment and more defenseless children like those with disability were more exposed to burn injuries.

Parents should be well informed about these factors to avoid not only burn injury but as well as other personal injury cases from rapidly increasing in numbers.

Whatever it is, whether younger or older children, parents should be more diligent in taking care of their children. Preventive measure should be taken to avoid children from being seriously injured since children can hardly endure too much pain in their young body.

Securing Evidence in a Slip and Fall Accident

Slip and fall accidents can cause severe injuries and even death. There are actually four kinds of slip and fall accidents:

• Trip and fall accidents – it is when foreign object caused the accident.
• Stump and fall accidents – it is when an impediment caused the accident.
• Step and fall accidents – it is when an unexpected failure or hole in the ground caused the accident
• Slip and fall accidents – it is when the connection of the shoe and the floor fails.

Under Tort Law, Slip and fall is a claim based upon one’s slipping and falling. It is a damage and founded on a demand on the property owner’s negligence, letting some risky conditions to exist on the premises that can cause slip or trip.

A victim of slip and fall accident should provide evidence which led to the accident. Apparently, to an injured person, the first thing that comes into our mind is their condition of health and of course the last thing is to preserve the proof.

However, there is nothing more valuable than a photo taken right at the very moment of the slip and fall accident. Photographs of a slip and fall accident are very crucial pieces of evidence that will bolster your claim.. A person without having any photos to show during trial could lead to a further argument against them. Your slip and fall lawyer can absolutely agree on that

Even if you think that taking photos of one of your unforgettable or should I say embarrassing moment may bring shame or humiliation to your personality, well, in such situation, forget about shame, think of your self as well as your health condition. By all means, have someone to take pictures on your while you were prostrated in pain and embarrassment.

In any case for personal injuries, accident scene taken photographs may be the best evidence you bring in any court or tribunals.

18-year-old Lady Killed after Rollover Crash in H-241

Driving at high speed on the highway that has 60 to 70mph limit can be dangerous.

Since December 2010, authorities have raised the speed limit on 241 toll road from 60 mph to 70 mph. However, this does not mean that motorists can speed ahead up to the limit. The California law still mandates drivers to lower the speed level when road condition becomes hazardous. This includes reducing the speed during adverse weather condition, congested traffic, or when the driver is impaired.

A common example of required lowering of speed level is when the driver is suffering from fatigue and is driving at night. The hazard is high as the motorist may not notice road objects clearly or fail to pay attention on road signals. When the driver proceeds at high speed during the known danger, he or she can be held liable when the crash occurs.

Take the example of a teenager who died after the truck she was riding on veered off the lane and overturned on 241 toll road on Sunday at 1:00 a.m.

Taylor Sams, 18 years old, was a passenger of the truck when the driver lost control of the wheels. The pick up swerved, hit a soft soil, and rolled over on south of Portola Parkway, according to reports.

Reports said Sams was pronounced dead at the accident scene. Rescuers arrived and rushed the driver to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

According to police's initial investigation, the driver had left Los Angeles road for an hour upon reaching the 241 toll road. The motorist apparently was suffering from fatigue when the crash occurred.

Authorities commented that drugs or alcohol may not be a factor in the accident.

The driver could have pulled over and rested for several minutes in the emergency lane. Doing so might have prevented the accident. At most, the driver could have easily reduced speed as driving at night along 241 toll road can be hazardous.

Driving while suffering from fatigue can be considered a negligent act when the motorist knew of the hazard, but proceeded with the action. When the driver fails to justify his or her errant behavior, the court may impose stringent penalties.

2 Motorists Seriously Injured in 101 Freeway Crash

Chain accident often results in serious injuries to victims because of the aggravated impact of the multi-vehicle collision. When another driver hits a crashed car, the occupant suffers more harm. If the accident occurs on the freeway, no wonder an oncoming car may fail to avoid the scene and cause secondary collision.

Take the example of the multiple car crash in 101 Freeway on Sunday night. According to reports, a car was moving eastbound on Ventura Freeway when its driver struck another car. The collision triggered another accident. At least two motorists sustained injuries and a third victim suffered minor injuries.

Rescuers arrived and rushed the three people to a local hospital, reports said.

Drivers often have a hard time avoiding an accident scene on freeways. Most motorists drive at high speeds on Ventura freeway and swerving to avoid a crash scene usually cause other collision with oncoming vehicles.

On the other hand, if the vehicle driver chooses to slow down and stop, the motorist behind may rear-end the vehicle. By all means, an accident scene on the freeway poses tremendous hazard for other motorists.

If you or your loved one is injured in a chain accident on the freeway, you can assert legal action to recover damages for your medical expenses and losses. You can file a personal injury lawsuit against the driver who hit your vehicle. If there are two or more motorists involved, you can add them as defendants in your suit. Your attorney in Los Angeles will help you determine the fault of each motorist in the crash and assert damages accordingly.

LASD to Pay Malibu Wrongful Death Victim’s Parents

A wrongful death is always painful, and it may become inevitably tragic if it was caused by the negligence of the police.

On September 2009, 24-year-old Miltrice Richardson was arrested at a Malibu restaurant for failing to pay her bill. Malibu sheriff’s department released her from custody around midnight the next day without car, purse, or cell phone. Following her release, Richardson went missing.

Several months after Richardson went missing, her body was found in a secluded canyon in Malibu. The victim’s parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD). In the lawsuit, the parents strongly criticized the deputies’ decision to release their daughter into the midnight, given her mental and emotional state.

Almost a year after the claim was filed, the parents of Richardson and LASD have reached a tentative agreement to settle the lawsuit for $900,000, reports said.

Under the tort law, a person or a group of people who caused wrongful death of an individual are legally required to provide compensation for the immediate family or dependents of the decedent. In the case of Richardson, LASD must shoulder the compensation for the parents’ pain and suffering and loss of companionship.

Pregnant Pedestrian’s Unborn Killed in a Inglewood Car Accident

Only bulls ran over color red; for humans, red means stop, not go. A woman driver in Inglewood, California, acted like wild bull instead of a reasonable driver when she sped up and ran through a red traffic light, hitting a pregnant pedestrian and killing her unborn child.

According to news reports, the driver, Janine Mayfield, hit a pregnant woman, identified as Brittney Cheeseman at Market Street, Inglewood. Right after the pedestrian accident, Cheeseman was brought to a local hospital to have her injuries treated. Unfortunately, the victim’s unborn did not survive the accident.

Police investigation found out that Mayfield ran over a red light and did not stop when she hit Cheeseman. Witnesses to the accident notified the police of the plate number of the car that helped in tracking down Mayfield, reports said. The driver was arrested and being held on a $50,000 bail.

A simple act of carelessness when driving may result in life-damaging consequences for the victim. In the case of Mayfield, because of her negligence in following traffic rule, life of an innocent unborn child is lost.

In legal sense, Cheeseman may file for personal injury and wrongful death claims against the female driver. Under the tort law, it is the legal obligation of a negligent driver to provide compensations for the car accident victim.

Texting Drivers in California Should Get their Pockets Ready

The world of texting drivers in California is becoming smaller – for the better. To address the growing problem on auto accidents in California due to distracted driving, the California Senate has approved a proposed bill that will increase the fine for distracted drivers.

According to news reports, the bill only needs the sign of Governor Jerry Brown to pass it into state law. Presently the base fine for texting drivers is $20 but if the governor approves the bill, distracted drivers would be fined with $50 and repeat offenders would penalized with $100 up to $528.

The dangers of texting while driving to drivers and pedestrians cannot be underestimated. According to Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), nearly 5,474 people were involved in fatal crashes involving driver distraction in 2009 alone. The worst thing about distracted driving is that innocent people may be injured or killed due to one’s carelessness.

Certainly the proposed California law cannot totally eliminate texting drivers in the state; however, it can somehow make drivers think twice before using their mobile phones while driving.

Top 3 Reminders for Drivers

Road accidents happen more than 10 times a day and it is always good to be aware of your rights as well as your responsibilities while you’re on the road.

Being oblivious of the law when it comes to dealing with vehicle accidents gives us no excuse to face the consequences of our actions that’s why today, we have come up with top 3 things to remember while you are behind the wheel.

Number 3: Never drive drunk.

As much as it has been a cliché, a lot of people still forget or some intentionally break this rule. A lot of lives have been in jeopardy due to people driving under the influence of alcohol.
Driving is a huge responsibility so no matter how tempting it is to drink while coming from a party, you have to make a stand and be disciplined enough not to do so.

Number 2: Never use your mobile phone.

In California, it has already been part of the law and was announced by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) that the use of mobile phones while driving will cause an infraction for those who will violate it.

That law that was released back in 2009 is just reasonable to assure the safety of the person driving, as well as to the people on the streets.

Number 1: Focus.

It is hard to do anything if your mind is somewhere else and this definitely applies while driving. Being 100% focused while on the road is a must especially if you’re a new driver.

Avoid talking to your seatmate, eating, drinking and even listening to loud music if it will only cause your attention to dwindle while you’re behind the wheel.

Keep in mind all these simple tips that we have for you to avoid road accidents. Remember that it’s not only you who could suffer from it but other people as well.

Car and other vehicular accidents are not something new especially if you are living in California. If you have experienced it or if there’s anyone you know who has been a victim of it, it’s better to consult a California personal injury lawyer.

Reversing Tow Truck Driver Kills Chino Woman

Horrible things can happen behind your back, literally. A tow truck driver fatally hit a woman while trying to reverse his vehicle in Chino Hills.

The woman identified as Lisa Via, 42, was killed in a truck accident while trying to stop a tow truck driver from reclaiming her car. According to news reports, driver Leo Song claimed that he did not notice that Via was behind the vehicle while he was backing up.

The victim’s sister, Sandy Pavlik, said that Via was stuck in between the truck and the vehicle. However, according to Song’s testimony, he assumed the woman had moved away when he started reversing the truck.

If proven guilty of negligent driving, the driver can face legal consequences pursuant to tort law. Under the law, if a person’s negligent action causes the untimely death of another individual, he or she is required to provide compensation and indemnity to the beneficiaries like family members of the victim.

Family members of a wrongful death victim are advised to seek legal assistance from a personal injury lawyer who can properly pursue their claim. Compensation for family members may include immediate expenses related to the victim’s death, loss of benefits, loss of the victim’s anticipated income, and pain and suffering,

To know more on wrongful death claims in California, you may consult with a Los Angeles attorney. Your lawyer will help you file a lawsuit and assert compensation for your losses. Contact our toll fee number at 1-866-772-2889 or email us at info@mesriani.com for a free case analysis.

Father and Daughter Detained for Felony Hit-and-Run Violations

To what extent does a father need to protect his daughter? Is it even after a fatal accident?

This scenario dawns on the father of a 23-year-old driver who struck a bicyclist in Canoga Park.

According to reports, Los Angeles police officers arrested Dominique Rush and her father on Tuesday after tracing their involvement in a fatal crash that killed a senior high school cyclist on April 20.

Police officers detained the father and daughter in Van Nuys Police Station after four months of investigation. Dominique's bail is set at $100,000 while Rush's bail is set at $20,000, reports said.

Reports said the teen cyclist, German Alex Romero, was traveling with his friend on northbound De Soto Avenue when the car struck and left him at the scene on June. Romero sustained fatal injuries while his friend was unhurt in the accident. Steven allegedly helped her daughter conceal the crime.

Residents near Canoga Park and Valley Traffic Detectives helped the police officers track the whereabouts of the car driver.

However, after concealing his daughter’s crime, he reaped more legal troubles for both of them. The police officers charged Dominique with felony hit-and-run and Gross Vehicular Manslaughter. Steven also faces legal charges for helping her daughter run away from authorities.

Felony hit-and-run carries more stringent penalties before the court. Should the car driver have chosen to stop and inform authorities about the crash, she could have given herself a chance to clarify the causes of events. If she had also presented her proof financial responsibility, she might not have faced imprisonment.

L.A. Art Walk Accident Involving 2-Month-Old Child Becomes a Wake-up Call

Motorists and pedestrians alike deserve safer streets and roads. Although many accidents occur due to the negligence of certain drivers, some vehicle accidents happen because of unsafe streets.

The tragic death of a two-month-old child at the Los Angeles Art Walk became a wake-up call for authorities. The City Council assigned a new task force that will review traffic, pedestrian maintenance, and other road safety issues along the area to avoid any horrific accident in the future.

Last month, a driver crashed into a curb of L.A. Art Walk while trying to park his vehicle. The mishap left several pedestrians injured and a two-month-old baby, Marcello Vasquez, dead.

According to traffic officials, the Art Walk accommodates up to 30,000 people when there are events. The large number of crowd is difficult to manage and secure, and controlling traffic along the area becomes problematic. In addition, inconsistent traffic control may cause hazards to both drivers and pedestrians and it can greatly increase the risks of a road accident.

Car accidents may result in injuries and deaths, just like what happened to the innocent infant victim. Drivers must always take all the possible caution to avoid any destructive accident. Victims of car accidents have the legal right to file for compensation claims against negligent drivers who cause them pain and suffering.

Calimesa Man Suffers Serious Injuries after Losing Control of Car Wheels

Perhaps it is true when they say cars get into crashes more than SUVs nowadays.

Whether it's just what Sport-Utility Vehicles (SUVs) marketers say to promote new stability features or not, the series of car accident reports in California this year point to the reality of its driving hazard.

Stability problems among cars during adverse road condition were raised by recent researchers. They argued that new SUV models with stability control system can better prevent rollover than ordinary cars. They have challenged car manufacturers to compete with the new safety feature and prove reduce accident cases.

Perhaps the researches can include the accident in Interstate 15 on Tuesday to one of its case study.

According to reports, Jeffrey Gerardo, 22 years old, was driving his Saturn SL2 on Interstate 15 when he lost control of the wheels. The coupe veered off the east road and rolled several times down the embankment, reports said.

Some motorists saw the accident and tried to help Gerardo. Murrieta rescuers also came and cut the car's front door to pull him out. He suffered serious injuries and was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries, reports said.

Reports said the driver lose control of the wheels when the car began veering off the lane. Perhaps manufacturers can take the challenge of inventing new technology to improve car stability when the driver lifts his hand off the wheels for several seconds. This can mean installing new device or restructuring the car’s system.

Whether car manufacturers take the challenge or not, it will remain true that road hazard exists for all motorists. It is still the responsibility of the driver to inspect his car’s parts and abide with traffic laws. Failure to fulfill such duty of care reduces the driver’s chance of receiving damages from the car manufacturer’s insurance company or from the government.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's Son Out of the Hospital

Unlike his father, Christopher was able to survive a tough family crisis.

Arnold Schwarzenegger may have not expected his son's ability to surpass a painful lung surgery and series of therapy. He could have been seen reflecting on her crashed marriage life and how it has affected his son. No wonder he granted Maria Shriver's request for spousal support after seeing how devastated she is beside the hospital bed.

Now that Christopher has survived his injuries, the Schwarzenegger family also seems to be recovering from the divorce issue.

The accident occurred two months after Arnold publicly admitted that he was fathering a 13-year-old son with the family's maid. Christopher went boogie boarding and was hit by a wave at a Malibu beach on July 17.

It is tragic to see how a once-admired family collapsed in an instant. Nevertheless, the accident left some lessons on the couple on handling tough issues with care.

Whether the divorce papers reach its conclusion or Arnold amend the papers again, we know for sure that Christopher will never be the same again. Such marks of surgery on his collapsed lung and broken ribs will remind him how pain can ease in due time.

Biker Missing in Pomona Motorcycle-Big Rig Collision

Accidents cannot defy physics – this is always the case when a smaller car collides with a much bigger truck. This is what happened in a road accident at Pamona Freeway, California when a motorcycle crashed into a big rig that made the rider disappeared.

According to news reports, the collision happened around midnight, Monday, at Diamond Bar Boulevard and the California Highway Patrol conducted a ground and air search but failed to find the driver.

Drivers who witnessed the accident claim that the motorcycle was in the slow lane and a biker jacket was seen hanging from the undercarriage of another automobile but the motorcyclist was nowhere in sight, a CHP officer said.

In any road accident, someone is always accountable. If the investigation shows that the traffic mishap was caused by the negligence of the truck driver, he is liable to face the legal consequences of his actions. If this will be the case, the biker can file for damage compensations against the big rig driver and the trucking company.

In a report by Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration conducted in 2006, top five common causes for truck accidents in California were noted:

1. Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol
2. Reckless driving
3. Unfamiliarity of the road
4. Inadequate surveillance
5. Driver fatigue

Truck accidents in California are a concern for all road users because of the high fatality risks associated with such accidents. Drivers must take precautionary measures to avoid any life-altering road accidents because others’ lives are at always stake.

Pregnant Mom Killed after 134 Freeway Crash

Is the medical condition of a pregnant woman enough for police officers to stop her from driving?

Perhaps yes. Consider the rising number of pregnant women who were recently involved in car crashes in California. To be more specific, their medical condition could have affected driving conditions at the time of crash.

Dizziness during the prenatal period may cause a pregnant driver to lose focus while on the road. Moreover, related pre-natal conditions may affect a driver’s ability to prevent a collision along freeways.

However, prohibiting pregnant women from driving on California streets may spark protests among critics. Advocates of women rights may reiterate non-discrimination regulation among motorists.

What is left to do for state officials is to help these pregnant women gain access to safety equipment. It can effectively reduce the number of fatal crashes and help save unborn children.

Let us take the case of a 30-year-old pregnant driver from Los Angeles who died after crashing her car on 134 Freeway on Sunday.

According to Los Angeles police reports, the woman was driving westbound on Victory Boulevard when her car veered off the lane and struck a tree. Paramedics rushed her to USC-Medical Center, but she and her unborn child did not survive.
Police officers described how the blunt force caused major damage to the driver's compartment.

It is not yet clear if the mother died due to the accident or if her medical condition triggered its occurrence. Regardless of the cause of the fatal incident, Cal authorities still have to implement ways to prevent a similar cause of accident.

Needless to say, pregnant women need more protection from driving hazards compared to other motorists. Seatbelt and lap belt are not enough to protect the mother and her unborn child while behind the wheels.

When all things fail, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers may try adding "driving while pregnant" to its list of prohibition.

For more information on traffic laws, you may consult with a personal injury lawyer in Los Angeles. An attorney will help you file the car accident lawsuit and recover damages. Dial our toll free number at 1-866-772-2889 or email us at info@mesriani.com for a free case analysis.

Motorcyclist Dies in PCH Collision

Riding with a group is really fun, but hazardous.

Consider the case of a 24-year-old rider who has died after crashing his motorcycle into a car along the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) on Monday.

According to reports, the car driver was pulling out from the Point Mugu State Beach parking lot when the motorcyclist slammed into the vehicle's side.

Walter Gutierrez, the motorcyclist, died instantly after the crash. Mindee Martinez, the vehicle driver, suffered minor injuries and was transported to St. John's Regional Medical Center, reports said.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers commented that Gutierrez was riding with a dozen other motorcyclists. The riders were approaching a restaurant near Mugu Rock when the collision happened.

Authorities found no trace of alcohol or drugs in the involved parties' system.

Riding with a group can be dangerous, especially when trying to move away from an oncoming vehicle. Reduced space can hinder the rider from preventing the collision.

Moreover, the driver may have been encountering enough trouble on the wheels while moving out of the parking lot, preventing her from noticing the presence of the motorcyclist.

However, if the car driver failed to give warning signals when pulling out, she may face liability for the crash. The surviving family members can establish the negligent act of the driver and seek damages from her.

233 Households Lose Electricity after Car Crash

A single car crash caused power outage to three neighborhoods along a busy area in San Francisco Friday morning.

The motorist may be in a hurry to avoid the morning rush when the car swerved and hit a power pole. The accident caused at least 6,700 residents to lose electricity for the whole day.

According to reports, the driver was traveling at Leavenworth and Filbert streets when it struck the power pole. The accident has affected the Telegraph Hill, Nob Hill, and Russian Hill neighborhoods.

Reports said at least 6,700 Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) customers had no electricity until late afternoon. The company restored power to the affected houses after 5:00 p.m.

It took one crash to impair residential and business activities at the three communities.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers can suspend the car driver’s license in a day, if he is guilty of a traffic law violation. Supposing the driver has committed drunk driving or speeding, the court may require him to compensate PG&E for the cost of repair of the affected power lines.

In California, it is illegal to exceed the 0.08 percent Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) limit. Drivers must also observe the 25 mph speed limit on residential areas. Failure to observe such traffic regulations may lead to legal consequences.

Jackass Star Ryan Dunn Dies in Car Accident

Jackass Star Ryan Dunn had survived numerous dangerous stunts, but not a car crash at West Goshen Township near Philadelphia on Monday.

The 34-year-old celeb was traveling on Route 322 and New Street when his Porsche swerved and crashed into a tree. The car then burst into flames, reports said.

According to reports, Dunn and his passenger, Zachary Hartwell, were both pronounced dead at the crash site.

Police commented that the two were seen leaving a pub in West Chester shortly before the accident. Also, Dunn was driving at 100 mph speed rate on a 55 mph zone.

Though Dunn was known as a professional stuntman, he was not able to overcome the blunt force which resulted from the car crash. Also, his speeding and DUI violations led to his tragic end.

In California, it is illegal for a driver to exceed the speed limit of 60 mph on freeways and 25 mph in populated areas. Also, adult motorists are mandated to abide with 0.08 percent limit on alcohol intake. Police officers enforce this law to reduce the danger on highways and to prevent catastrophic crashes from happening.

Sadly, Dunn failed to abide with the rules and this mistake directly caused his death. Nevertheless, his death will remind other drivers to abide with traffic laws and to prioritize their safety at all times.

Interstate 5 Chain Crash Blamed on Distracted Driver

When you drive on the fast lane, allow extra distance from the driver in front of you in case he slows down or makes abrupt changes. This prevents a rear-end collision and a chain crash when you are traveling on the freeway.

If you fail to do so, you’ll end banged up like the people involved in the recent Interstate 5 three-vehicle collision.

On Wednesday, at least ten people were injured after a three-car collision at northbound Interstate 5 near Avenida Pico at 1:30 p.m.

A Dodge Durango driver was heading northbound in the fast lane when he crashed onto a slowing Nissan sedan. The impact of collision caused the Nissan sedan driver to hit a Mercedes coupe, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports.

Reports said the Dodge Durango driver failed to stop on time to avoid the rear-end collision. He was unhurt in the crash, but four of his passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to UCI Medical Center.

On the other hand, two occupants from the Nissan sedan sustained serious injuries while other four passengers sustained non-life threatening injuries. Rescuers transported the six injured people to Mission hospital. The 55-year-old driver of the Mercedes coupe was unhurt, reports said.

CHP officers commented that the Dodge driver failed to respond on the hazard due to inattention.

Shifting to lower gear abruptly while traveling on the fast lane is dangerous. Motorists behind may fail to notice such sudden deceleration and crash head onto your vehicle.
Also, when the driver is distracted or sleepy, it can reduce the response time to execute an emergency action.

In California, distracted driving is a traffic law offense and is considered a negligent act. Violators may face penalties and legal consequences when other people are harmed or injured as a result of the misconduct.

Pregnant Tori Spelling Unhurt after LA Car Accident

Accident runs in the family.

This may be true for Tori and Dean because they both now faced the danger of traveling along Los Angeles’ roads.

On Monday, actress Tori Spelling crashed her car onto a school's wall as she tried to run away from a paparazzo, according to reports.

Reports said the Beverly Hill's icon was driving her two children to school when a photographer chased her car. Her car hit the school's curb and crashed onto the wall. The paparazzo still attempted to take some photos after the crash, but some school moms rescued Tori.

The Hollywood celeb and her two kids, Liam and Stella, were unhurt in the accident. Nevertheless, she visited her doctor to check whether her unborn baby is safe.

In her Twitter account, she narrated how the paparazzo still insisted on taking photos despite her condition.

It seems like the paparazzo was eager to get a real glimpse of the pregnant celeb. Perhaps the family's snap shots on Oxygen's Tori and Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood are not enough to reveal the family affairs. But, knowing that pregnant Tori already
crashed her car, the photographer should have called it quits.

Maybe it’s about time that LA City enforces stringent policies for paparazzi. Hollywood celebrities oftentimes are compelled to exceed speed limit just to escape intrusive photographers. Such act exposes actresses to crashes and injuries.

Good thing Dean McDermott has now recovered quite from his motorbike crash in July 2010 and he can assist his pregnant wife in moving in and out of LA streets.

Man Dies after Assault, Run Over Crash in LA

If stabbing is not enough to kill an enemy, using a car as another weapon may do the job. This may be the idea running in the mind of the two attackers as they jabbed the man and run him over.

According to Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), two men stabbed the victim, struck him with their car, and left the scene. As they reached the 1300 block of North Bradley Avenue, the car driver lost control of the wheels and crashed onto a pole.

The jabbed man was pronounced dead at the scene. The two attackers sustained injuries in the car accident and were transported to a local hospital, reports said.

LAPD homicide and traffic officers are investigating the case.

Unluckily, the attackers reveal themselves to authorities as they crashed the car and asked for medical treatment. The two men are now facing homicide and traffic law violation charges.

What is supposed to be a smooth criminal plan has ended up as a catastrophic crash. You see, crime does pay. And this time, they literally have to spend for their own hospital bill and legal expenses.

Sooner, the two men have to deal with the intentional misconduct allegations against them. Homicide coupled with traffic law violation has grave penalties and may lead to lengthy imprisonment penalty.

Father and Sons Killed after Car Crash and Drowning Accident

What can be more tragic when a wife sees his husband dead weeks before Father's Day? And, isn't it worst when her kids are gone on a single day? Perhaps, it will just be prayers that can help ease her pain.

On Saturday, Cody Allen Olson, 16, was driving a family car on rain-slicked Highway 70 when it passed a recreational vehicle. He tried to switch lane, but the car swerved and plummeted into the cold Feather River. His father identified as Jameson Olson and younger brother Jameson Olson III were his passengers at the time of accident, reports said.

According to reports, the three victims were able to swim out of the car and tried to reach shore. Cody Allen was able to help his 9-year-old brother hold onto a rock and then attempted to rescue his father.

The young boy held onto the rock for 20 minutes, but was later swept downstream.

Rescuers retrieved the boy and his father, but they were both pronounced dead at the hospital.

On the other hand, divers found the teen's body on Sunday afternoon.

According to CHP reports, the Pontiac Firebird car's worn out tires can be a factor in the accident.

Driving the worn-out tire on rain-slicked Highway 70 can spell disaster on a weekend family trip. Failure to tread the tires or replace old ones can reduce traction on a wet road surface. The tires can slip, swerve, and cause difficulty for the driver to control.

When the driver fails to reduce speed and regain traction, the car awaits hitting a road object.

What seems to be a father-and sons’ trip ends up as a catastrophic event. The mother could have been waiting for her boys to come home for dinner. What she met were the police officers, informing her of the accident.

Changing lanes or passing recreation vehicles can be a hazardous action, especially during rainy days. The slippery road can be enough for the tires to lost traction and cause the car to swerve and rollover.

Singer Sean Kingston Suffers Serious Injuries in Jet Ski Crash

This time Sean Kingston was not suicidal for a beautiful girl, he just didn't make it when he tried to avoid a Palm Island Bridge while jet skiing in Miami on Sunday at 6 p.m.

The Beautiful Girls' singer was jet skiing with a female friend when he failed to make a high-speed turn away from the small bridge, according to reports.

Fortunately, an off-duty Coast Guard passed by the resort and rushed the two to Ryder Trauma Center. Kingston was later moved at the intensive care unit of Jackson Memorial Hospital, reports said.

His publicist, Joseph Carozza, commented that the mixed reggae artist is expected to recover from his injuries.

Fellow singers such as Justin Bieber, Rihanna, and Soulja Boy expressed their support in helping their friend survive his injuries.

More so, Serena Williams visited Kingston at the hospital and later tweeted how special the artist is for her.

Perhaps Kingston will find the right girl for him after his catastrophic Jet Ski crash. Let’s see if the promising musician can work it out this time. He will just need to learn how to slow down while riding the Jet Ski and observe safety measures to prevent another accident.

Speeding with the Jet Ski is hazardous, especially when skiing near stationary objects such as bridges and other objects in water. Overspeeding can reduce the rider’s response time especially during an emergency that calls for quick maneuvers such as a turn.

NASA Mars Project Unfazed by Crane Accident

Impossible, but doable.

This can be the belief of rocket scientists as they pursue Mars project despite a crane accident at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Florida.

The accident occurred last week during a launch rehearsal at the known Mars Science Laboratory. The crane operator made a mistake of lifting the rover's back shell while it was still pinned to its table. The engineers rushed to the site and inspected whether the back shell's structure was damaged, reports said.

According to reports, the back shell was not designed to carry additional weight. As the scientists checked Curiosity's external, there were no significant damage.

Because of the unexpected durability of Curiosity's back shell, scientists have pursued its plans to launch it in November 2011. It is expected to land on Mars in summer of 2012. The Mars project will study potential life form and suitable conditions in Mars that can support primitive life.

Sounds impossible, but doable. Scientists have reiterated the possibility of reaching other planets and discovering other life forms aside from ones on Earth. It seems like not a crane accident can stop engineers from pursuing their goal to have Curiosity observe Mars.

What transpired during the launch rehearsal only proves that even a small accident or slight miscommunication among the involved personnel can make or break a well-planned project by a single act of recklessness or negligence. Should the crane operator have been more careful in performing his duty, the accident could have been avoided. Most likely, the operator did not ask or verify instructions before lifting the back shell. Also, his/her immediate superior should have monitored the rehearsal actions diligently.

In a crane accident, the immediate superior still has the responsibility over his/her workers. If ever an accident occurs, the manager and the employer can face liability over the employees' injuries. The employees can file Workers' Compensation
claim to avail of employer's health insurance. Should the employer refuse to provide medical coverage, the worker can assert legal action.

Hot-boarder Dies after DUI Accident in LA

Who says hot-boarding is fun? Perhaps for survivors of this dangerous sport. However, for the family of a deceased skater, it will remain as a lethal activity that leaves a lasting scar on memory.

According to police reports, Edward Culhane was hot-boarding (the skater is towed by a moving car) at Santa Clarita on Tuesday. He fell head first onto the ground, and was rushed to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The Los Angeles Police Officers arrested Ryan Howell, the car driver, for Driving Under Influence (DUI) charges.

What supposed to be a fun sport, ended fatally as Culhane failed to hang on tight with the rope and his skateboard. As the police officers have commented, the car driver seemed drunk while pulling his buddy. Reckless driving or speeding could have triggered Culhane to lose his grip and fall onto the ground.

According to Personal Injury law, Driving Under Influence (DUI) carries stringent penalties such as imprisonment, fines, and paying of damages. When such negligent act caused fatal injury to the victim, the surviving family members can assert legal action.

The surviving family members can file a Wrongful death lawsuit to recover damages for hospital/ burial expenses and emotional loss. The family members can present legal documents to establish the defendant’s violation.

Daniel Lanois Goes Motorcycling again after Recuperation

Guitarist-singer Daniel Lanois is back on riding motorcycle after recuperating from an accident at Los Angeles.
The artist was seen motorcycling on his way home at Los Angeles on Wednesday. Lanois confirmed he's back on the iron horse after recovering from multiple injuries in June 2010.

Lanois commented how his back still hurt after sustaining broken ribs and partly collapsed lung. Nevertheless, he pursued motorcycling again on a “hobby” basis.

The 59-year-old described how his doctor is not pleased with his new riding activities. What more if he’ll describe how he traverses to and fro downtown with his dirt bike. On top of his “hobby” activities, Lanois has series of concert tours with his band Black Dub.

While recuperating may take few months for some people, for Lanois, it seems like it only took weeks. This Grammy guy may serve as an idol for fans, but not his after-crash actions.

He will do better with being a passenger in his tour bus rather than roaming LA streets with his accident-prone bike.
Repeat traffic offenses can yield more penalties rather than healing. It can even aggravate driving license suspension or fines. More so, you might spend the next years of your life in prison.

Should you crash onto somebody else’ car again, you know it will not just be multiple injuries. It might spell “the end” for your career and personal life. Air Bags are meant to Secure Not to Injure

Complemented by seat belts, air bags were designed to protect drivers from serious injuries during vehicle accidents. If sudden impact arose, air bags should automatically deploy and protect the driver from being thrown forward.

However, some people do not know that air bags may cause also injuries if it fails to operate properly. There were instances reported that defective air bags deploy too soon or even released though it was not needed. With this, the driver may lose control of the vehicle and be involved in an injury or fatal accident.

There were also incidents that these air bags did not operate at all after an impact.

Just this Thursday, April 14, Ford has declared its decision to recall their popular F-150 pickup truck after some injuries were reported due to the defective air bags that may have been installed on this vehicle model.

Air bags should be placed on vehicles to secure drivers not to increase the possibility of sustaining serious injuries or fatalities. Thus, car manufacturers must have a thorough check on this safety feature before launching it to the market. It is their supreme liability to ensure the security of their buyers.

For those who may have problems regarding their vehicle’s air bags, you have the right to raise your complaints and have this safety feature repaired before you got involve in an accident.

As for those who already sustained injuries due to air bag defects, note all the details of the accident and file your case. Be sure to consult a product liability lawyer to have better chances of obtaining suitable damages against the car manufacturer.
