Babies are soft, weak and unable to protect themselves. Obviously, when something wrong happens to them, serious or fatal outcomes result.
In the middle of last year, a 5-month old infant from Shawnee, Texas died from strangulation. The culprit had been traced to allegedly defective convertible bassinets.
This was second to a prior strangulation incident involving a 4-month old infant from Missouri.
However, a major movement to recall 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 convertible “close-sleeper” bassinets had not been done until the second infant died. This prompted major retailers to recall these bassinets out from their shelves despite the product owner’s refusal to recall said products themselves.
The recall was said to be difficult as the product is now owned by a different company.
While most of us do everything for the safety of our children, it seemed that some companies catering to our babies’ needs fail to observe the maximum standards and requirements in making, distributing or manufacturing their products.
However, defective products victims can hold the manufacturers and distributors responsible for their injuries under the law. By filing a lawsuit for product liability claim, they can claim damages for their injuries.
These products or services must undergo quality check or control before making them available to the public.
